The University of Iowa is known to have one of the world’s best creative writing programs. The University has seen many successful writers come and go. Students of the University are now trying to get one of the most influential authors of all time, J.K. Rowling, to come to the campus to speak.
Although the Harry Potter author is very selective when it comes to speaking publicly, the students will not give up. They have started a letter writing campaign, hoping to persuade Rowling to speak at the campus.
When told about the letter writing campaign students agreed to participate. Nathaniel Richardson, a graduate student and member of Iowa’s Lecture Committee, says the committee plans to get about 100 letters to Rowling urging her to speak on campus next spring.
Students have been, and still are, inspired by Rowling, which is why the large amount of support the campaign has accumulated isn’t surprising.
They don’t want to get their hopes up too high, but the possibility that such an inspirational writer would be in Iowa City sure is exciting.
